DocHouse: Maverick: Epic Adventures of David Lean

David Lean was one of the greatest film directors of all time. From Brief Encounter (1945) to Lawrence of Arabia (1962) to A Passage to India (1984) and so many more, he redefined what movies could be: he was both pioneer of the large-scale epic and the master of the intimate romantic drama.

Lean's singular vision and dogged determination to film the impossible gained him the reputation of being an obsessive maverick. He was a master of his art, able to create love and beauty on screen, but whose own life was often messy, rootless and painful.

MAVERICK is the in-depth study of the man and his films, narrated by Cate Blanchett, with Kenneth Branagh is the voice of Lean, and featuring interviews with Wes Anderson, Alfonso Cuaron, Celine Song, Denis Villeneuve, Nia DaCosta and Francis Ford Coppola.
