- Synopsis
Art and Allegory brings together four short films that use experimentation as a form of political critique. A camel circles endlessly in a sesame mill; two blind men and a donkey lose their way; a crossroads becomes a portrait of a country in motion; a healer’s tomb exposes the dangers of blind faith. Drawing on the influence of Soviet montage while remaining rooted in local traditions of metaphor, fable, and oral storytelling, these films turn sound, repetition, and visual abstraction into ways of seeing social reality. Together, they present a Sudanese cinema in which modernist film practice and traditional storytelling meet with remarkable force.
